Your choice to support my work with a paid subscription means the world to me. At age seven, I followed Alice through the looking glass. The wonderland of words I discovered became my home. I was a writer. I will always be a writer.
Sixty years later — at age sixty-seven! — I discovered Substack. On November 3, 2023, I hit Publish. Writer, interrupted was alive. And in many ways, I came alive as well.
I had my MFA. I’d published some things: stories, poems, essays. But I’d never been paid for my writing. Only with Writer, interrupted did I achieve the dignity and privilege that comes with being paid to do the work that is the core of my being. This allows me to continue sending out only my best work.
Now, I need to apologize.
Since enabling payments, I’ve been uncertain about what to offer. Many of you have chosen to support me in order that I may continue to bring you my best work. You have my undying gratitude.
